REPORT FOR JULY 3rd HEALTH CAMP AT POLIO FOUNDATION
On July 3rd the health camp was organized with the combined efforts of Friends of Kalpana & Jaydev Desai, Polio Foundation (Amdavad) and Lions Club of Amdavad Central. The objective of the health camp was to provide diagnostic services free of charge to handicapped children as well as children born with birth deficiencies/cerebral palsy. Total of 117 patients were checked out during the health camp. 55 patients out of 117 were handicapped children whereas remaining 62 patients were with cerebral palsy. Of 55 handicapped children, seven children have been slated for surgery (polio patients). After the surgery these children will be able to use crutches to walk. On the day of the health camp thirteen were provided with artificial limbs such as legs, hands and calipers. All the remaining thirty-five (35) children will be provided with artificial limbs that will help them to do normal functions in their lives. For children with cerebral palsy, as it requires lengthy treatments, the provision has been made at the Polio Foundation to provide services at subsidized cost. The program will include teaching the children to do the daily basic functions in their lives.Following table summarizes number and type of patients treated at the health camp.
